Dog Heat Stroke-How Dog Overheating Can Cause This
Dog Heat Stroke due to dog heating or
over heating can be a serious matter, often resulting in causing some hurt or worse fatality to your pet. In
countries with extremely long and hot summers, it is important to learn about some safety precautions to take
for your dog with regards to such hot weather.
Some Dog Heating Tips You Should Know:
1. If you encounter hot temperatures between 60-80 degrees F, with high humidity,
never leave your pet in your car alone because your dog may be in danger of suffering a dog heat
stroke. Many countries have even laws against leaving your pets unattended in their
vehicles, but it's really good common sense not to especially in the scorching heat.
2. Choose the early morning or night when it is much cooler to bring your dog for
his walk but never in the middle of the day. Similarly when you are bringing your dog out for some exercise
as well, especially when you live in hot humid countries.
3. The color of your dog's fur plays a part in how hot or heated he can be. Dark
colors like black or or other dark colors tend to get his body hot much faster than others because black
absorbs heat much faster than any other colors.
4. Bear in mind that certain dog breeds overheat much faster like bulldogs and shih
tzus and are the best candidates for dog heat stroke if you are not careful.
5. If you put your dog in a dog
crate make sure that it is an open wire cage with some shade so that it is cool and gets lots of
ventilation.
6. When the weather is too hot, your dog need lots of clean water to prevent any
dehydration just like us humans. Simply place a big plastic dish and if it gets hotter leave your garden hose
turned on and provide running water into this dish. As opposed to heating a dog house or using a heated dog pad or heated dog house in the winter, you should now be accustomed to cooling your dog kennel to
keep your heated dog cool during this hot summer.
